What specs did the Russian guy use to film Kenyan women?
The Russian who released videos of his encounters with Kenyan women, sparking a media outburst, used the Ray-Ban Meta smartglasses. Meta Platforms and EssilorLuxottica collaborated to build the Ray-Ban Meta line of smartglasses. They have a touchpad integrated into the frame, two cameras, open-ear speakers, and a microphone. They are the second iteration of a range of smartglasses that Google and Snap Inc. have released.

The Ray-Ban Meta glasses don’t have an AR or HUD, in contrast to other smart glasses. They were revealed by Meta on September 27, 2023. They make use of Meta AI, livestreaming to Facebook and Instagram, upgraded cameras to 12 MP, enhanced audio, and a Qualcomm Snapdragon AR1 Gen 1 processor. On April 23, 2024, Meta said that the smart glasses’ Meta AI would be updated to allow multimodal input through computer vision.
Ray-Ban Meta smartglasses Hardware
There are three styles of Ray-Ban Stories glasses: Round, Wayfarer, and Meteor. These designs have single or progressive prescription lenses, polarized, transitional, and blue-light filtering lenses, and are available in up to six colors. In addition, the glasses have two cameras—one for taking photos and one for recording videos—and may pair with a phone via Bluetooth. These glasses require a Facebook account because images and videos are automatically saved there. Speakers and microphones for Facebook Assistant voice control are located in the temples of the frames.

There is a touchpad on top of the right temple that can be used to either take a picture by holding down on the touchpad or record a 30-second video by tapping once.[19] With three hours of battery life, each pair of glasses can be fully charged in just over an hour using a USB-C charging connection and charging case.[18] A Qualcomm Snapdragon® processor is linked to the touchpad, speakers, cameras, and microphones. Additionally, a Facebook View app is available.[18] [20]
Ray-Ban Meta smartglasses IOS Android Compatibility
Both iOS and Android can use Stories. They don’t have backward compatibility and only function with Marvs that made iOS 13 and Android 8.1 or later. The Ray-Ban Stories have Wi-Fi 802.11ac connectivity and support Bluetooth 5.0.
Meta-View app
On August 23, 2021, Meta launched the Facebook View mobile app (later renamed Meta View) on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store. Users must first couple their Ray-Ban Stories with their Facebook account in order to access the app’s sharing and management functions. Importing, editing, and formatting images and videos taken with Ray-Ban Stories for sharing on Meta-affiliated products like Instagram, Messenger, WhatsApp, and other social media platforms are among the app’s current features. Additionally, the app displays the Stories’ battery level.

Meta Ray-Ban Display
Meta revealed the Meta Ray-Ban Display at Connect, a new line of AI glasses with an integrated display, on September 18, 2025.[24] [25] These are Meta’s first smart glasses with visual output capabilities, and unlike earlier models, they have a tiny full-color, high-resolution display integrated into the right lens.
Ray-Ban Meta smartglasses Features and specifications
The Meta Ray-Ban Display offers a 20-degree field of view with 42 pixels per degree thanks to a monocular display with 600×600 pixel resolution built into the right lens. The display has a brightness range of 30 to 5,000 nits and a refresh rate of up to 90 Hz. The glasses come with Transitions lenses by default and weigh 69 grams for the standard size and 70 grams for the big size.
Among the technical details are:
A 12-megapixel camera with a 3x digital lens
Six-microphone array setup
Bluetooth-enabled open-ear speakers 5.3
Processor: Qualcomm Snapdragon AR1 Gen1
Internal storage of 32 GB
2 GB of LPDDR 4x RAM
Wi-Fi 6 connectivity
IPX4 certification for water resistance
Meta Neural Band
The Meta Neural Band, a surface electromyography (sEMG) wristband that decodes wrist muscle impulses to enable control of the glasses with delicate hand movements, is included with every Meta Ray-Ban Display. The band features an IPX7 water-resistant rating, weighs 42 grams, and has a battery life of up to 18 hours. Users may interact with apps, browse interfaces, and scroll content without touching the glasses thanks to on-device machine learning that converts EMG signals into digital commands. Deep learning algorithms based on data from about 200,000 willing research participants were used to construct the technology.
Ray-Ban Meta smartglasses Functionality
Several additional functions that were not possible with earlier Ray-Ban Meta glasses are made possible by the display:
Meta AI’s visual responses that provide solutions and detailed instructions
Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger private messaging displays
Screen-sharing features and live video calling
Visual maps for turn-by-turn pedestrian navigation (available in beta for a few locations)
Conversational real-time translation and live captioning
Zoom-capable camera viewfinder
Controls for playing music while displaying album art
Ray-Ban Meta smartglasses Release and pricing
On September 30, 2025, the Meta Ray-Ban Display made its debut in the US in a few select places, including Best Buy, LensCrafters, Sunglass Hut, and Ray-Ban stores. Verizon sites followed shortly after. Both the spectacles and the Meta Neural Band are included in the $799 USD price tag. They come in two frame sizes (regular and big) and two colors (black and sand). In early 2026, Meta revealed plans to increase access to the UK, France, Italy, and Canada.
Up to 6 hours of mixed-use battery life is offered by the glasses, and a further 24 hours can be used with the detachable charging case (30 hours total). The Meta Neural Band has an 18-hour battery life and is charged independently.
